Skhizein, which comes from the Greek word σχίζειν, on of the roots for schizophrenia is a bizzare yet intriguing 13 minute short film that dominated several festivals back in 2008 winning best animated short film in Cannes Film Festival. With a warm, wonderfully rendered style and a mixture of great detail and enjoyably abstract moments, this little piece of animation is, quite frankly, an absolute joy.

12th Thessaloniki Festival Documentary

The TDF is a leading European Documentary Festival, carried out every March in Thessaloniki since its inception in 1999 under the artistic direction of Dimitri Eipides. This year is taking place from 12 to 21 March and its main thematic sections are: Recordings of Memory, Portraits-Human Journeys, Stories to Tell, Habitat, Planet in Peril, Music, Views of the World, Greek Panorama. Through its tributes and retrospectives, the TDF focuses on filmmakers with unique cinematic voices, internationally renowned for their contribution to the documentary genre. The Festival’s side events host exhibitions, masterclasses, round table discussions, publications, concerts and parties, which gives another atmosphere in our town..

What about..?

And what are we talking about here? Art, music we like, films we like, forms of art that express ourselves, but not only. Art inspires us. Art breads art. We want through this blog to express ourselves, our anxieties, our thoughts. Each of us finds a form of expressing himself. My way is books. A journey through unknown worlds, which .discribed though. are left free to us to imagine them as we wish. Free..

I want to exchange with you ideas, thoughts and opinions about books, you have read, you like or you dislike..

And to begin with, I will start with a very popular book. I dont like it when some books , that are very popular, become a souvenir, a bag, earings, everything.. so popular that everybody likes it even if some have not even read it.

I posted my favorite part from a book, a popular one,“The little prince”. To remeber what it is about, when we see it on a bag, on a T-shirt, on a glass..

A book that was written for children but its a good lesson for adults who have forgotten how world should be, who have forgotten how to dream..

"Yes, I know..."

"It is just as it is with the flower. If you love a flower that lives on a star, it is sweet to look at the sky at night. All the stars are a-bloom with flowers..."

"Yes, I know..."

"And at night you will look up at the stars. Where I live everything is so small that I cannot show you where my star is to be found. It is better, like that. He laughed again.

"Ah, little prince, dear little prince! I love to hear that laughter!"

"That is my present. Just that. It will be as it was when we drank the water..."

"What are you trying to say?"

"All men have the stars," he answered, "but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems. For my businessman they were wealth. But all these stars are silent. You-- you alone-- will have the stars as no one else has them--"

"What are you trying to say?"

"In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night... you-- only you-- will have stars that can laugh!"

And he laughed again.

"And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure... and your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, 'Yes, the stars always make me laugh!' And they will think you are crazy. It will be a very shabby trick that I shall have played on you..."

Ascenseur pour l'échafaud

This suspencion is about the notorious film-noir Elevator to the Gallows which has been directed from the French film director Louis Malle. The movie distinguish from the unique combination between the jazz score(composed from the trumpeter Miles Davis) and the noir-atmosphere of the movie. The central characters in this film, secret-lovers Florence Carala and Julien Tavernier (Moreau and Ronet), plan the perfect crime — the murder of Florence's husband, Simon Carala. Can they get away from the law?

One of the films we enjoyed most in the 50th Film Festival of thessaloniki 2009. Characterized by a very timely themed script and a unique combination of characters. The different dead-ends the contemporary man comes across, meet and find solution through a strange, romantic and affectionate story. The artisitic way the director gives out his original ideas makes this film definetely worth to see!
